At the B.C. poker championships in Richmond, British Columbia players battled it out, with 1 man emerging as the winner and claiming the largest legal poker prize in Canada. Salt Spring Island’s James Hawkins took the grand prize of $382,000. The four-day-period event is his second ever tournament. He faced his own share of the 1,100 players from all over Canada and the United States. The B.C. poker championships consisted of 3 separate Texas Hold’em events. It is believed that the poker tournament will become an annual event. [back]
